The Pediatric Department at Womens & Childrens Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient services for children from birth to 17 years of age. Our comprehensive approach to your childs health, from special needs to preventive care and everything in between, allows you the full spectrum of choices for your child from an experienced staff you can trust. Emergency
The Childrens Emergency Department is the only 24-hour emergency department in Acadiana dedicated to the care of children, newborn through 17 years of age. In the event of an emergency, rest assured that our staff of board-certified pediatricians and pediatric nurses are specially trained to treat everything from minor illnesses such as sore throats and earaches to major trauma including car accidents involving serious head injuries.
Surgery
Should your child ever require surgery, Womens & Childrens Hospital has the support of a pediatric general surgeon, a pediatric neuro-surgeon, as well as other specialists, all ready to provide exemplary care. Our anesthesia staff has expertise in the administration of anesthesia from the tiniest of babies to adolescents, including those with special needs.
PICU
We understand that if your child requires admittance to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), it can be a stressful time for you and your family. The goal of Womens & Childrens Hospital is to provide the best clinical care possible, while promoting an emotionally supportive environment to the entire family. You can feel confident that your child will receive the best medical care required for the given situation. Not only does our PICU offer close monitoring and specialized care, but is also one of the only units in the state that allows you to sleep at your childs bedside. Parent/Family participation is encouraged during your childs treatment and you are welcome to stay with your child throughout their entire stay in the unit.
NICU
Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 50-bed, Level III Regional unit and is staffed by nurses trained in the intensive care of premature and ill infants. Womens & Childrens Hospital is the only hospital in Acadiana and one of only eight in the state with Level III Regional status. Along with the neonatologists, we provide the support of numerous pediatric specialists including surgery, cardiology, pulmonology, neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, ENT, ophthalmology and more.
Transport
We realize that medical emergencies can arise far from our facilitys doors. That is why we have assembled one of the best critical care transport teams in the area. The transport team is comprised of highly skilled and extensively trained RNs and respiratory therapists who stabilize and transport critically ill patients, by air or ground transportation, while remaining in close communication with our physicians.
Shots for Tots
Women's & Children's Hospital is pleased to participate in the Shots for Tots Program which provides immunizations to children for a minimal fee. Our clinics are held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. once a quarter. Dates are available by calling (337) 521-9100.
